Saavn-No work,all play

As I start writing this, I already receive another notification from Saavn pro that the best of Amy Winehouse is here.Well, only if the notifications popping around made me like the application even more,I would have surely went on and tapped on that, but maybe sharing my experience with the app might satisfy me a little more.

The company was founded in the year 2007, acquired rights to over 7 million tracks, and has over 13 million monthly active users( all this I have taken from wikipedia)and I am just one among them.

Proposing a heuristic evaluation and coming up with its violations and finding the areas possessing the scope of improvement is something I am sure Saavn has already done and is doing on the regular basis. What I to do is to merely discuss my experiences with the app.

While I was going through a book on interaction design, I came across a very interesting statement-

" experience is the difference between what we expect of something and what it actually is"

This kind of made me think that what if there is a time that my expectations and reality start overlapping? Will that time be a time of no experience or ideal experience?

I installed the application a few days ago, thinking I would be able to listen to whatever music I want and whenever I want, provided I have the net working.

When I installed and first hopped in, it displayed a very generic page;

The login page

Since I had previously used the app ( and had downloaded 8 songs with one month subscription) I had the number registered. I used it and went in and it came to my notice that all my songs that I had downloaded previously were already gone.

So I move on and since I have wifi at home and I wanted to listen to some particular songs when I am out and in the offline mode, I decided to take subscription for 5 days and then went on,downloaded 2 songs.

I was happy to use these songs in the offline mode for 7 days and then, After the subscription got over, I again subscribed and to my surprise, I was told that I have never downloaded any songs and I need to download it again in order to to be to listen to them in offline mode.

Well, this is where the agitation started,I had already downloaded the song, and I understand the subscription needs to be renewed, but why downloading it again?Seriously?

Well, now I wanted to confirm whether this downloading and re-downloading after the renewal of subscription happened just once or does it happen everytime. So this time, I took the subscription for one day and then downloaded 9 songs.

But after I renewed my subscription, it again showed that I have no songs that I have downloaded.

So I click on download and get the " choose your plan : window.which automatically selects the 3 months plan for me and has options for 1 day , 7 days plans

So this time, I take the subscription for 5 days again, and check whether I get my songs back or not,

But, as I was suspecting, I couldn't get any of those songs back.

And I got even more agitated after that.

My experience with the app, other than it stopping abruptly when I go from online to offline mode and vice-versa, got really frustrating when I observed that:

  1. It's only after subscription that I can listen to the songs there in my downloads.( which they claim to have facilitated to listen music when offline)
  2. These downloads go missing every time my subscription ends and I have to download them again.

I really don't understand the reason and the thought process involved in introducing such a feature in the app.Maybe erasing the downloads after a certain amount of time would have made more sense to me rather than erasing it every time the subscription ends.

I might be looking for another music app now. Hopefully I don't get the same frustrating experience from them.

But until my subscription ends,I will be happily using Saavn.

As of today( 02nd November,2016) I am able to restore my downloads even after my account expires.
Now that they have started moving to a better experience deliverance, I hope I will not be so pissed of at the application any more,
